The Concept:  Most eye disease is caused by systemic problems.  In other words,  your body as a whole is failing to support the eye's health.  The Holistic Approach is to treat the eye disease by treating your whole body and in the process prevent many other diseases.  In essence, the eye disease is the symptom and not the cause!  In this office we practice conservative,  integrative medicine and as such we also use allopathic treatments (traditional medicine)  whenever they are appropriate.

GENERAL DEFINITION: Holistic vision care is an approach to vision care that looks at vision in relation to the whole body and its environment. Years ago a visit to the eye doctor usually meant you had an eye infection or a need for glasses. The holistic approach considers this and much more. For example, you donít just have one eye, you have two even though you are usually not conscious of using two. What happens if they do not work ideally as a team? What if your diet does not have adequate antioxidants and you are getting cataracts at 40?  The nutrition in your diet (body)  is your environment too, it is your internal environment.

ONE ASPECT - EYE TEAMWORK: The holistic approach is to look at not only the sharpness of vision but how the eyes work as a team in distance as well as close up activities. For example: many corporate executives have suddenly found that they have to do their own word processing and suddenly, though they see clearly, they now have symptoms such as headaches, words running together, loss of place with reading, etc. The problem with the eyes working as a team was always there but did not show up because they did not have to do the writing because the secretary used to do it. This problem can be permanently resolved with exercises but only if it is diagnosed.....the holistic approach!

A SECOND ASPECT - THE ENVIRONMENT: Another example of the holistic approach is the resolution of environmental symptoms. Suppose you move your office into a new building and your eyes are now dry and scratchy. You are a contact lens wearer, your lenses are new and clean and you have always done well. What is the cause? It is quite possible that it environmental. You may have carpet under you feet that was once wet, and is now moldy or even ceiling tiles that were subjected to a leak from the air conditioning system months ago. It may turn out that your lenses are fine, but the environment needs repair! Your nutritional environment is also a factor. Many early degenerations from macular degeneration to cataracts can be prevented or forestalled by the use of good nutritional supplements, are you aware of them?  Is the food you eat healthy?  Why do so many people suffer from
